Still alive, and kicking ...

I just wanted to take a moment and let you all know that we are still here and doing fine.

There is a lot going on for me, but I will update that in a week or two. Trust me... You will want to stay tuned.

But for now I will just tell you about the little man.

Corey has competed in 3 US Swim Meets so far. He is doing very well. He loves it. He goes to practice 4 nights a week and has three more meets in January. He has only been on the team since August, and he has earned several ribbons. In fact, if he takes 1 second off his back stroke he will qualify for state finals. But, we are not pushing for that. He is, but I am not.
His favorite stroke is the breast stroke, but his best stroke is the back. However his coach, and the senior coach have high hopes for his butterfly. He has yet to compete in that stroke, but he is close to ready.
He is so darn flexible, actually double jointed, he was built for the butterfly and back stroke. He loves the water and is now showing interest in diving, especially high dive. He attempted a forward flip off the high dive, but did not complete his rotation and landed wrong. I nearly passed out, as did his coach, before we both told him that until he is properly trained, he should not be attempting any aerial maneuvers.
He is doing well in school, although has a hard time turning his work in. He does it, just neglects to turn it in. But he is in 4th grade math and reading level. (He is actually in the 3rd grade.) And his ability to remember details in history and science is remarkable.
He had some (and still has) some major dental work. He had two extractions and a filling. He still needs a root canal and other work. Plus (go figure) he will need braces ... For sure. (YIPPEE!)
He continues to amuse and astound us all with his observations and vocabulary.
This may be the last Christmas that we will be trying to convince him of Santa. When he had his teeth pulled, he also lost another tooth naturally. So I advised him to put all three under his pillow. He questioned the reality of the Tooth Fairy. So while foolishly trying to keep up the delusion (as all parents do) I asked him if he still believed in Santa. He said "Yes, but I am highly suspicious." When later asked by his grandpa if he believed in Santa and he responded "It is important to my mom that I continue to believe, so I will for her."
And that my friends sums up my son.
