Busy Bee
So things have been busy to say the least. Here is a little run down of my life right now.
1. Working at the store full time. I am no longer in the furniture dept. I am now in gift home. Which means that I get to play with small little dust collectors, stationary, floral, picture frames, and collectables all day. Except we are now on our Christmas push and I am having to deal with Christmas cards, ornaments, large Santa and Snowmen, Christmas Trees, and lots and lots of glitter. I am covered in glitter everyday. And in order to accomodate all this Christmas Joy in OCTOBER ... we have to move all of our other merchandise on to smaller isles, tables, areas. Now, mind you there are still shipping us the same amount of all the other merchindise, we just have less space to display it.
2. Due to some major changes in Corey's swim club, I am now on the board and in charge of Hospitality. (We lost a couple of board members, or as I like to call them a ton of dead weight)
So in addition to board member duties (IE meetings, fundraising, approvals, denials, etc) I am kind of the "collections dept." for the club. Writing letters, contacting parents who have missed payments of dues, or paid incorrectly. And then there is Hospitality.
Hospitality provides the food for the swim officials and swim coaches at the meets. These meals are free and have to be available all day long. We have a room with a microwave, sink, outlets, and tables. So my job is to plan the meals (this time it is two breakfast and two lunches) Create a list of needed items, check our inventory (which thanks to the lazy dead weight had to be completely redone and organized for over 3 hours on my day off from work last weekend), send a lists out to all swim parents requesting donations of needed items, keep track of all donations, buy what items were not donated, prep food, cook food, store food, deliver food the day of meet at appox 6 am, set up room and food, organize any volunteers in the hospitality and set up teams, keep track of their volunteer hours, serve breakfast, break it down around 10 am, set out snacks, set up lunch, serve lunch, break it down, and prep for next day. On Sunday I do it all over again, and then tear it all down. Back stock anything we can, modify inventory list (because I am organized that way) and submit results to board. I also have to make sure that all the timers and officials are served water and snacks every hour out by the pool.
AND DURING ALL OF THIS ... I am also Corey's mom and biggest fan ... I have to make sure he is packed with all his swim gear (swim speedo's, 2 goggles, tent, sleeping bag, 10 towles, sweats, carbo snacks, water, games, book, music, and chair) I have to make sure he gets warmed up, streaches, and finds his coach for relay times and info. I have to buy a heat sheet so that we can know what event #, heat #, and lane he swims in for all his races. I write those on a cheat sheet I invented (probably going to start selling them) I also write them on his foot so he can see it. I have to make sure that about 10 minutes before his event (there are 8 this time) he turns of the games or what not and starts getting focused, 5 min before I get him down by the starting blocks with his coach where Corey and I discuss his goal and seed time, then I wait next to the pool with cheat sheet and stop watch. I do my mom thing of cheering him on, hand him a dry towl, make sure he talks to his coach about race, then put him back in tent to wind down and relax until next event. I track his time in a jounal and make sure that he drinks pleanty of water and goes pee. My parents help in this as well. (Especially the cheering, relax, and drink water patrol)
3. On top of all of this, we are still moving into our new place. And down sizing. We have to finish so we can get out of our storage unit ... this same swim meet weekend. And now is the time of year I try to start on my Christmas projects.
I am tired just writing this. But ... I am enjoying it. (we'll see after this weekend!!!!)
Corey is doing great ... all A's so far and has the teacher he really wanted. He is in 4th grade. He is in advanced 5th grade math, and excelling into higher levels in reading and science as well. He is working hard on his swimming. In this meet he will be competeing in the following events, and then he will be training for the 500 meter free style for the next meet.
100 meter Individual Medly
50 meter Breast Stroke (loves it)
50 meter Butterfly (excellent at it, might be his best stroke)
50 meter Free style (great rhythm)
50 meter Back stroke (hates it, but does well)
200 meter Free style
2 relay (team) events (if it is a medly he will prob do the butterfly)
John is doing fine. Unfortuneately he got hurt at work and is now off work for the second week, and will probably be for another week. It is an ankle injury. His foot looks like I beat him with a sledge hammer. It is UGLY. Completely grossed Corey out. He hates being off of work, especially the loss in pay, workmans comp doesn't pay full pay. So it sucks. He has been helpful around the house though. As much as a man with one leg can be.
So that is your huge update... now, where is mine?
