Just keep swimming ...
Well folks, things went swimmingly! HA!
Corey did really well in the meet.
He took
4th in the boys 9-10 year old 100 yard Individual Medley
6th in the boys 9-10 y.o. 50 yard Back Stroke
7th in the boys 9-10 y.o. 50 yard Free Style
3rd in the boys 9-10 y.o. 50 yard Butterfly
And ...
4th in the open (any age boys/men) 200 Free. He was the youngest swimmer, the others were 12,13, and 15 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did very well (much to my surprise) in hospitality. The food was well done, on time, and there was plenty of it. I also managed to spend a good amount of time with Corey, and was there with him, talking him through his plan, for each race.
What I really want to brag about was that 200 yard Free. He was amazing. He paced himself so well. Kept a perfect and steady rhythm and then on the last 25 he turned off that wall, and kicked it into high gear. It looked like he had just got in the water. No fatigue, no missed stroke or stalling. Just sheer speed and energy. Even one of the officials said out loud "Where the hell did that come from?"
It was great. He was soooooo proud of himself. We didn't even care what place he got. He swam it so well. It was amazing to watch. One of those moments that even a parent can't believe. I will be able to picture that in my minds eye for the rest of my life. And the smile on his face after. He felt sooooooo good. Until, that is, the head coach announced that this is what he knew Corey could do and would be for sure putting him in the 500 free next meet. Then Corey realized what Spiderman has been saying all along. With great power come great responsibility.
